Excellent Argus C4. Not a museum piece but a very nice vintage camera. If you're looking for a more than half century old camera you can use it might be the right one. I have plenty of rangefinders (my wife says too many) so this one has to go.
Light use, very good appearance, excellent function. The focus is smooth, the shutter clean and action crisp, Viewfinder clear with a bright focus spot and the rangefinder is right on. Those iconic external focus gears can slip, particularly if the lens is stiff, consequently Argus rangefinders are sometimes inaccurate.
Case is also very good, with the original owner's initials stamped on the back.
When Argus introduced the C4 in 1951 it was a striking departure from their boxy C3, the most popular 35mm camera in the world. Argus was the world leader in sales, they wanted a model that reflected their status - the C4. With cast aluminum body and flowing lines it was modern, stylish, and a big improvement on the C3 but only a moderate commercial success. They sold 300,000 copies in 7 years. The "Brick" (C3) continued in production until 1968 while the C4 was discontinued in 1957.
I haven't shot this camera. I guarantee it will function properly. If, during the first 60 days, it fails for any reason, short of being driven over by your Suburban or dropped in the Chesapeake, I will refund your purchase price.
Add a vintage exposure meter, or get a light meter app for your smart phone.
