Garment Designer, like all pattern drafting software programs, relies on a number of body measurements to create custom fit patterns. Ursula Hurth, the distributor of Garment Designer in Germany, has developed a ruler that helps you take a number of these measurements more easily. It can also be used to take measurements of existing garments to help you develop patterns that incorporate their proportions or design features.
It consists of a 42cm/16in arm and a 30cm/12in arm hinged together, and marked with both inches and centimeters. There is also a window on the longer arm that can be used to read the angle between the two arms. A third 18cm/7in arm has a slot to allow it to be slipped over another arm, and slid back and forth. The ruler is made of sturdy plastic that is also flexible, allowing it to be curved around the body being measured.
In can be used for measuring the armhole depth, neck width, shoulder angle and width, and many other body dimensions. It an also be used for measuring the neckline width and depth, armscye and sleeve cap, waist shaping and other garment dimensions.
Due to the length of this item, it is classed as a large package for posting.

This is a surprisingly useful ruler. There are no instructions with it but it's fairly intuitive. My purchase was despatched and delivered extremely quickly.
