Yes! They are alive! And they are earrings. I'm no scientist, but rumor has it they may improve the air quality around your face. And be prepared, people will ask you about these... great for conversation icebreakers! Or the unique gift for that special someone in your life.
Green thumb not required! Your purchase is a truly unique piece of living art, featuring Tillandsias (otherwise known as air plants), and amazingly, they require no soil in order to thrive. These are merely some examples of my current air plant earrings so you get an idea of color and size. I am always getting new and gorgeous varieties and try to order plants in bloom or on the brink of changing colors. Plants in color will change back to green, and green ones will change color. Most air plants will flower as well.
You trust me to create a dazzling pair of earrings for you. Or you conversation me with your design preferences, and we work together to get you the best looking epiphytic sensations to grace your earlobes. I usually have several options for the plants and design on hand, and will select a great combo for you, unless you have specific requests.
All you have to do is water these marvels of our natural world occasionally (spray bottle is great), and they do well both indoors and outdoors (as long as temperatures do not reach the freezing point). Most air plants will change colors, bloom, and make "pups", so your air plant family will continue to grow with your love and care. The metal holding the plant is made from galvanized aluminum and/ or wire repurposed from a remodeled house, so they are lightweight and will never rust. Also, all ear wire is now hypo-allergenic, self-latching surgical steel.
Don't worry; purchases come with a care instruction sheet so maintenance is easy, and I have the detailed care instructions on my "policies" page.
This makes a wonderful gift! I can drop ship to your loved one, and include a note from "you" if indicated upon purchase.
These custom orders will generally ship USPS priority mail within 2-7 business days (depending on what I have on hand). I get them out as soon as I can, and carefully package them.
Feel free to "convo" me with any questions. Thanks for stopping by!

Ordered these for mother's day. They arrived on time and with extra plants, which was good because one of the plants in the earrings was dead and falling apart.....they look beautiful and she absolutely loved them.

I'm new to Etsy and didn't realize there was feedback. I'm sorry it took so long. I LOVE the earrings - such an awesome conversation starter. The plants are very healthy and the extra one you included was just very thoughtful. The shipping was very fast and the earrings were very well packaged. Thanks again!
I strive to ship your purchases within 72 hours of received payment. I carefully package the items and can combine shipping for some items. The air plant sculptures arrive in a triangular tube box, and no more than one can be shipped at a time. However, smaller items may be shipped along in this box (the best way to work out the details and discounts is through a conversation). I ship priority and standard USPS, and can offer an insurance option (but, buyer must cover insurance expenses). If you would like to upgrade your shipping options, please indicate through a conversation with me.
DEAL ALERT: If you are local to the Asheville, North Carolina area (like me), then you can eliminate shipping costs by meeting me somewhere in town for a (gasp!) face-to-face exchange.
Since these make great gifts for your loved ones, I am happy to drop ship directly to the lucky person in your life and even send a handmade card along with your personal message. Just let me know upon purchase.
Of course, I am happy to entertain any questions you may have about shipping.
Currently I accept Paypal and direct etsy checkout as payment for my wares. I ask that you respectfully make payment within 3 days of indicated purchase, and I reserve the right to relist the item if payment is not received within that time frame. This is of particular importance when ordering the live plants.
Returns & exchanges
I trust the USPS to get your package to you safely. I choose not to refund items lost or damaged in transit during shipping. If for some reason you receive something other than your exact purchase, I will absorb costs for straightening out the mix-up (please send me a photo of what you received within 48 hours). The plants come with detailed care instructions, so keeping them happy and healthy is up to you. In the unlikely event that an air plant dies within fourteen days of purchase, I will send you a replacement plant of the same or similar variety at no expense to you.
I want shopping at kambra.etsy.com to be a pleasant experience for us all. I warmly welcome any and all feedback you have for me to make this small corner of the world a better place. Thanks for doing your part to keep the creative juices flowing! ~kambra ************************************************************************************************ TILLANDSIA (AIR PLANT) CARE INSTRUCTIONS: (also come with each purchase)
Tillandsias belong to the Bromeliad species, and most will bloom and reproduce quite easily. They do not need soil, as they get needed nutrients from the air. Here is how to best care for your new air plant…
Air plants will grow either indoors or outdoors, as long as temperatures do not reach the freezing point.
LIGHT: Lighting for air plants should be bright but filtered (April- October). They should not be left in the direct sun in the summer months (this will cause the plant to become sunburned). They love direct sun (November- March). Tillandsias may be grown in the house directly in front of a window or where there is a great deal of natural light. Fresh moving air circulation is important, and the most important care need is bright filtered light. Trees, overhangs, and window tinting can rob your plants of needed light. Place plants no further away than 3 feet from a window. (Although, my house is fairly dark, and I’ve had plants thrive for over two years and counting!)
WATER: (Non-chlorinated water is best-- I use de-ionized or reverse osmosis water) Thoroughly wet your air plant about once a week or more often in hot, dry climates, and less often in cool, humid environments. Plants may be submerged in a bowl of water (about 30 seconds) or misted with a spray bottle. (I alternate between these two approaches and it works well). Air plants typically grow in rainforests, so mimicking that environment will be beneficial to the plant. Tillandsias will not survive in standing water. Do not keep plants constantly wet or moist, as this will cause the plant to rot. Under-watering is evidenced by an exaggeration of the natural concave curve of each leaf.
AIR CIRCULATION: Following each watering, air plants should be given enough light and air circulation to dry in no longer than 4 hours. Keeping them in their wire holders during watering and drying cycles will provide the best air circulation for plant health.
TEMPERATURE: Optimal temperature range for tillandsias is between 50-90 degrees F.
FERTILIZER: Fertilizer is not necessary, but will encourage your plant to bloom and propagate. Use Bromeliad fertilizer (twice a month is recommended). Other water-soluble fertilizers can be used at ¼ strength if Bromeliad fertilizer is unavailable.
