Item details

DESCRIPTION: Amazingly, this simple kit will convert almost any manual typewriter into a USB computer keyboard, for use with any Mac or PC, or even with tablets such as the iPad! With this simple process, you can turn your typewriter into a modern marvel in a single afternoon, using only the most basic tools (a screwdriver, some sandpaper, and a hot glue gun).

After the conversion, your USB Typewriter will still print on paper, so if you want you can turn your computer off and type normally, while still saving your manuscript to edit digitally afterwards. Alternatively, you can use your typewriter as an elegant keyboard stand for your tablet (as shown), provided that your tablet supports USB Keyboards. Note that some tablets, such as the iPad, require special adapters to connect to keyboards, which is why I now offer a Bluetooth option to simplify connection to any smartphone or tablet.

EASY TO INSTALL -- NO SOLDERING REQUIRED!
This kit requires no soldering or computer skills to install, and in most cases installation takes only two or three hours. The kit will work on a wide range of portable typewriters, and on select desktop models, too (See www.usbtypewriter.com/compatibility to determine if your typewriter is compatible with the kit.) Just select your brand from the drop-down menu above when checking out.

Great item. I love the brain power used in converting an old item and repurposing it, so it is still valuable within our current technology. I haven't had a a chance to install it but excited to do so. I hope the Bluetooth option works. Cross my fingers...

This item works great, but I ran into some difficulties while putting it together. Also, it was supposed to come with the cables I needed to use right away. So after a few hours of hard work I couldn't even test it! I had to go out to the store to buy the cable, and emailing with the shop owner was met with no response or help. So, it works but not sure I'd buy from this shop again.

Yeah, It's awesome. Programing was a bit of a challenge but that was on me. Don't rush and realize it may take a few attempts. It is all very well designed. Brilliant really.

Returns & exchanges

All ready-made USB Typewriters are vintage machines that have been pre-owned. I guarantee that pictures and functional descriptions of the machines are an honest representation of each typewriter being purchased -- however, because of the reclaimed nature of these antique typewriters, it is possible you may not receive the exact typewriter that is pictured in the listing. I offer a 60 day satisfaction guarantee return policy -- during which time you may choose to return the typewriter to me for any reason (If you have requested a custom paint job or engraved message for your typewriter, however, I will not accept returns.). I also offer a 2 year repair/replace policy against breakage due to normal use.

All PCBs and components included in the DIY Conversion Kits are guaranteed against defects. Any obvious flaws in these parts is grounds for a full refund. If you have any problems assembling the kit, I will do my best to guide you through it.
