Variations par Benedictus Plate 19 Art Deco Original Fine Art Pochoir print 1924
Edouard Benedictus was a noted painter, writer, designer, composer and chemist. In 1924 he introduced a portfolio of designs for fabric and wallpaper. The dramatically vivid colors were created by the pochoir process with single layers of color added by hand to a lithograph using a stencil. This print is from an original portfolio hand colored by Jean Saude. The colors are rich, fresh and vibrant on a heavy creamy stock. This one also has metallic silver paint applied to the highlights in the two upper designs. The edges of this print show minor wear, the upper right hand corner was creased and the tip of that corner is missing. There is also a reddish brown paint splotch in the right hand border. This print is much richer and saturated than my digital photo.
