I am so excited to introduce you to my latest yarn: Sarmatia!! Sarmatia is a luscious and luxurious blend of premium superwash Blue-faced Leicester wool, lustrous silk, and precious, ultra-soft cashmere. This deluxe yarn is the perfect canvas for creating fabulous, colorful socks, light garments and accessories. The cuddly-soft cashmere content melds with a beautiful velvety fiber halo from the BFL, and punched-up shine from the generous helping of silk.

All of my British Blue-faced Leicester yarns are named for places or persons associated with the Arthurian legends. Sarmatia is unusual enough to be worthy of a little explanation. Some scholars think the historical origin of the King Arthur was to be found in the person of Lucius Artorius Castus, the Roman leader of a division of mercenaries from the ancient nomadic kingdom of Sarmatia who fought northern barbarian tribes in 2nd or 3rd century Roman-occupied Britain. The Sarmatians' had a near religious, fondness for their swords: tribal worship was directed at a sword sticking up from the ground, similar to the sword in the stone. They carried standards in the form of dragons, and inspired a set of legends that have many parallels to the later Arthurian tales. Other scholars look for historical influences closer to the British Isles. Either way, this yarn is fit for royalty - or your favorite not-quite-so legendary hero!

Sarmatia is hand-dyed with professional low-environmental-impact acid dyes for your crafting enjoyment. For maximum garment life, please hand-wash your finished items in cool water and dry flat.
