Item details

Now contains PINT and HALF-PINT sizes!!

Recently a customer asked for a custom Jars to Go Bag that would hold 4 pint jars, rather than 2. I loved the way it turned out, and determined to add it to the shop, as well as write a pattern for it. I can just see it for picnics and potlucks, or just bringing breakfast and lunch for a long day at work. Also great for your zero-waste mason jar shopping!

In the pint size bag, we have found that two quarts will fit in along with two pints, if you just place them in opposite corners and leave the quarts out of the sleeves. (See the fourth photo.) Pint-and-a-half jars will also fit, since they are the same girth as a regular pint, just taller.

This is a simple pattern with lots of photos and detailed instructions. And if you run into problems, I'm just an email away!

Materials needed:
Outer fabric, 5/8 yard
Lining, 1 1/8 yard
Fusible craft fleece, 3/4 yard
1" wide ribbon, twill tape, or other strong trim, 1 1/8 yard
Thread

Napkin instructions are not included in the pattern, but they aren't hard to figure out. Add extra fabric if you'd like to make some to match. Or if you're pressed for time, why not just buy some matching bandanas? Cute!

This listing is for a PDF pattern to sew your own bag. It will be available to download instantly after your purchase, through your Etsy account. It is not an actual bag, and does not include photo props such as jars, food, silverware or napkin.

Can you sell bags made by this pattern? Yes, BUT: only as many as the purchaser of the pattern can personally make. No collective or factory production. If bags are sold online, please give design credit to Kim Payne of atinyforest.com. The pattern itself may not be distributed in any way, for sale or for free.

FAQs

I know my zero-waste customers want to know! I am happy to report that I have transitioned to all recycled/recyclable packaging products! Your order will come either wrapped in kraft paper, or in a cardboard box, depending on what is most suitable for your order. It will be sealed with recyclable paper tape. I do use heat-printed labels - I know they're evil, but they save ink (packaging) and trips to the post office (gas). I limit the "extra papers" to one business card and one tiny thank-you. I will leave those out if you ask.

I've sewn for many years, and I have to say this is one of the most well-written, clear patterns I've ever had the pleasure to use. I like that Kim gives the option to cut the fabric pieces using measurements, rather than having to print out pattern pieces on paper, cut them out, tape them together, etc. In addition, Kim drew out her pattern pieces on a graph paper background, so it's easy to count the graph paper squares on the computer screen BEFORE I cut the fabric, to be sure I'm not mixing up similar lengthwise and width-wise measurements. I would highly recommend this pattern and this seller. Kim is easy to work with and answers convos quickly. I have not finished sewing my bag yet, but the clear directions, I'm 100% sure there will be no issues.

LOVE this pattern! Bought the pattern and had all the materials to make it on-hand. I made it the same night I bought it and it turned out super cute! I'm really glad I did the 4-jar style. I pack my lunch in it every day and it's not too heavy at all. I do have ideas for different bags I can make now, based on this pattern . It's a really easy and fun project. Very satisfying and functional :-)
