Each frame from the 'Naked' line is finished with only natural, renewable materials- shellac and wax. It is a time-tested finish that will last decades indoors, but will ultimately break down with no harm to the environment. The glass, steel nails & hangers, and cotton backing board are all recyclable or biodegradable.
The wood for Naked frames is chosen for its intrinsic beauty- that is the only real design decision. Three coats of shellac are applied between sanding and the frame is then finally hand-rubbed with wax. It's slow and tedious but yields a beautiful satin finish. Every frame will be unique, and even wood from the same board can vary in color, density, and texture- the two ends of a board that are a few feet apart can also be years or decades apart! The back is painted a rosy flesh color (this is a 'Naked' frame, after all).
Every piece from my studio is designed, milled, and finished by hand in Atlanta, Georgia. Each frame comes with conservation glass and backing- as well as a hanger for walls and a stand for tables. Custom sizes or different woods are never a problem, just convo me for details.
