Item details

This online class explores contemporary ways to use an ancient looping technique that's sometimes called Coptic knitting, Tarim stitch or Viking knit. It's worked with a single needle, with the entire length of thread passing through each stitch. Video lessons, PDF handouts and coaching on a private course site help you build a solid foundation of thread control skills and learn to design projects that suit your own tastes and materials.

Lessons cover:
-- basic technique for both right-handed and left-handed stitchers
-- different ways to control thread tension and stitch size and different ways to hold the work
-- increases and decreases for shaping
-- working with and without molds
-- oval base
-- round base
-- flat panels
-- design considerations for cross-knit looping projects

Each of the three in-depth lessons includes four to six video units (a total of 40 to 60 minutes per lesson), plus PDF handouts that are delivered as Etsy digital downloads. The second half of the course includes supplementary material, but the focus is on gaining experience by stitching projects of your own design.

Upon purchase, your class handouts will be available via Etsy digital download immediately. An email with your password and access information to the course site will come within 36 hours.

Your online classroom is open 24/7. The format is built around a suggested 7-week study period, because some people benefit from having that frame of reference. But this is a self-paced course with no expiration date: If work, travel, family commitments or other events conflict with your class, you can just put it on hold until the timing is better for you.

This class is taught entirely in English.

Cross-knit looping marries beautifully with weaving, knitting, crochet and felting, or stands on its own (perfect for travel). This technique is beloved by handspinners and lovers of hand-dyed yarns -- it 's great for transforming sample skeins into small projects.

Looping is an exciting, versatile technique with endless possibilities to explore. Looking for more online looping classes? Register for New Age Looping Basic at Learn more about looping at
