Item details

The Western Soapberry (Sapindus saponaria var. drummondiis) a Highly Sought Native Tree that serves as a Medium Shade Tree in the Wildlife Garden and provides Beautiful Fall Color in the Residential Landscape...

Each Seed Pod contains multiple seeds...and we provide multiple pods for a minimum of 20+ seeds! Seeds are sealed in plastic bags and the packets are shipped in bubble-wrap envelopes. USPS

All of our plants are Organically Grown and Chemical Free.

A Bit of Plant Culture...

The Native Tree has a wide natural habitat that reaches from Texas west and north across the Mid-western Plains and Prairies and west to the Chihuahuan and Sonoran Deserts and back to the Eastern Seaboard. This Landscape Tree is highly ornamental during the summer and an absolute MUST for the Butterfly Advocate!

Soapberry produces white to golden blooms in the spring that contrast well against the darker green leaves. It is a medium tree that can reach 18 to 25' at maturity and highly drought-tolerant. The Native Tree tolerates poor soils, including limestone and clay. Soapberry is cold-hardy in USDA Zones 6 through 9.

The fruit from the Soapberry produces a soapy, foamy lather when mixed with water. The Native Americans used it as a soap.

Herbalists today place several of the dried seed pods or dried fruit into a clean sock or small bag and use it as an additive to the dryer to decrease static. Soapberry is a Stunning Permaculture Addition to the Landscape!

This is a stunning Native Tree that provides three season interest. It should be sited in full sun to decrease lateral root development. The Fall Color of Yellow to Burnt Orange is stunning in the Landscape.

Seed Heritage

We were taught to harvest as children by our Great-grandmother Bray, a full-blooded Cherokee. She worked most of her life among seeds, cuttings and plants that helped to feed the reservation members in the 1950's. Our seeds are harvested, packaged and stored as she taught us..by hand from an organic environment. Most of our packets retain the original pods or seed casings because Grand-mother Bray believed strongly that if you 'cleaned the seed', you were separating the heart and soul of the new plant.

Like Grandmother Bray, we are generous with the number of seeds we ship.l.One change to our grandmother's methods are to use plastic gloves for handling and plastic bags for shipping...We hope she understands.

Harvesting Seeds

The seeds we offer are harvested from our own gardens. We do not harvest from the wild or from state or federal lands without authorization. Recent research through Texas A&M is suggesting that by separating the seed from the chaff or touching the seed directly, we are inadvertently impacting on the seed germination rate by the transfer of oil from our hands. For this reason, we collect seeds using plastic gloves. Our seeds are naturally dried in a separate area and packed into plastic bags. We also include germination instructions for our seed sales upon your request.

Seed Buyer Responsibility

We trial-test our own seeds and take great care in the harvesting process since we often grow our new stock from the same seeds. Germination and growing out are the buyer's responsibility and the success will be based on the care and cultivation taken by the buyer. We assume no responsibility once the seed packet is received by the buyer.

We assume no responsibility for promoting invasive species and will not ship species considered Invasive by State Authorities or the USDA.

We do not recommend or accept any responsibility for species material used as a medical alternative.

We ship in the Order of Paid Invoices...and while our goal is prompt shipment of all orders. However shipping delays can occur during period of High Sales (Spring Planting and Christmas) or due to periods of Severe Weather. We routinely do not ship some plants during the Heat of August. If in doubt as to the specific shipping date of the items you purchased, please send us a note!...

We welcome your messages or special requests. We attempt to respond to all messages promptly...sometimes, the response requires a bit of time to research.

Our Growing Philosophy....We propagate through seedlings, cuttings, and division of well-established plants. We do not use chemicals and allow the plant to establish root systems naturally. This may - or may not - create a smaller plant or a longer growing period than the 'Treated with Nitrogen' plants visible at Big Box Stores.

We do not grow hundreds of any one plant, but prefer to grow hundreds of different plants instead...Numbers of plants are often limited.

We offer many native varieties because we like them and strongly believe that the Heritage of Natives should be retained. We Never collect them from the wild. We grow them from cuttings or seeds from our own Garden and Property.

We ship with excess soil removed from the root system. The roots are wrapped in dampened materials and securely encased in plastic. Each plant is labeled as to the common and botanical names. We ship USPS. We have been using this method for more than 30 years and have found it to be highly reliable...

We routinely ship Plant Materials within the Continental USA. Alaska, Puerto Rico and Virgin Islands require additional shipping costs...and we will create a Designated Listing for your additional shipping and handling costs.

We can not replace or refund Plant, Seed or Cutting material that has been confiscated by a governmental agency...regardless of the reason. We can no longer maintain current information on State Regulations for Live Plant Shipment. It is the Buyer's Responsibility to know when a plant is considered "non-shippable" into their state.

Due to USDA regulations, we ship no plants, seeds, or cuttings to Hawaii.

You do not have to be home to receive your package as we do not require signatures. Neither do we mark the boxes with the contents because this gives the US Postal Service the option of non-delivery if no-one is home.

As soon as the plants have been packed and shipped, the buyer is provided with the Label or Tracking Number. we do follow tracking on our shipped items and consider the sale complete when the Tracking Information indicates the package/box was delivered safely by USPS.

Each Plant Sale is unique for us! Each is hand-inspected and hand-packed for shipment. We do not 'anticipate' shipping or purchase the Shipping Label in advance of Shipment. We carry each box to the United States Post Office for shipment to ensure prompt scanning and shipment...and routinely make trips to the Belton Post Office three days a week.

We are shipping a growing number of Fairy Garden Miniatures and Whimsey Internationally when requested. We have had great success with shipping to the United Kingdom, Iceland, France and Australia. Additional shipping costs may/are required.

Our goal is Assist in Growing Your Garden...as well as Ours!

Cultural Growing Information...Please ask us if you would like cultural or growing information and we will gladly respond electronically. We will happily oblige upon request ONLY! We do not include growing instructions or invoice in your shipment.
