Item details

These little Bali bat carved bone beads are flatbacked so they can sit flush and be stitched onto a cuff or a beading or mixed media project.

They were hand-carved for me in Bali where the bats look just like this little guy.

As it's transpired, this has become one of my most popular beads. It's a consistent seller and has earned more hearts than any other item in my shop.

Please note that this listing is for one piece only. There are more of these guys due in to roost very soon.

PayPal is my preferred method of payment.

Shipping: This item will ship from Ubud, Bali, by registered mail with a tracking number, and you will almost certainly have to sign for the package upon delivery. It will be well packaged to protect it in transit, and the cost of the pack is included in the shipping fee. I generally ship more quickly than the 3-5 days mentioned in my shipping profile.

On a visit to Bali in 2004, I happened to be staying in an upstairs room at an old establishment Seminyak hotel, the Bali Agung Village.

With the moon for an escort, I'd wander back from a night out and stand on the balcony for a bat's eye view of these little creatures flitting about among the palm trees.

The experience totally changed my opinion about bats. They went from being spooky to cute.

That said, you might not be quite so enamoured of the fruit bats that inhabit Bali's famous Goa Lawah Bat Cave on the island's east coast, in the regency of Klungkung.

The cave is home to thousands of the little critters, and, according to legend, a giant dragon-like snake called Basuki. It's the bats, not Basuki, who are responsible for the inescapable smell.

Legend also has it that the cave extends all the way to the island's most sacred temple, Besakih, more than 30 kilometers (19 miles) away. Fear of Basuki has kept locals from checking whether this is really so.

In front of the cave opening is the small but significant Hindu temple of Goa Lawah, Bali's foremost temple in matters pertaining to the afterlife.

In Bahasa Indonesia, goa means cave and kelelawah means bat. You can see a virtual tour of Goa Lawah here:

I have bought bats from this shoppe before. Always a great experience. These little ones are so beautifully made. Customer service is exceptional. Shipping takes a while, be patient. It is worth the wait.

This is absolutely beautiful, I bought it as a gift and actually had a hard time giving it away. My friend was thrilled with it. The detail, the craftsmanship and the energy of this little bat is wonderful. The shipping was fast, the seller included a small gift and a lovely hand-written note, I'm definitely purchasing something from this store again.

Beautiful. This bat is so detailed. And it came with a beautiful star. I tied it to my leather bracelet. I love it. Thank you so much. Highly recommended .
