Item details

You are purchasing one plant grown in a #1 (one gallon) size container. The plant that you are purchasing is approximately 1 years old, 2-3 feet tall now and with 1-3 culms (canes).

Phyllostachys aureosulcata ‘Aureocaulis’

Common name: Golden Crookstem

The Golden Crookstem is hardy down to -10°, making it probably the hardiest of all the yellows. Its completely yellow culms are sometimes streaked with green at the base. Like some of the other crookstems, this one turns red to mahogany when the culms are exposed to sunny locations. Also, like the other Crookstems, it too gets the occasionally zigzagging pattern in its culms. The Golden Crookstem makes an excellent hedge, screen, wind break or container plant. We have two here at the nursery in 100 gallon size Asian pots on our outside deck that are beautiful. They are both almost 20′ tall and sway with just the slightest of wind. Imagine looking up at them from your hammock or hot tub relaxing after a hard day in the garden!!

Height x Diameter:25′x2″
Minimum temperature: Hardy to -10f° to -15f°.
USDA zone 5-10
Light: Full sun.
Culm: Yellow with green stripes. New culms red in full sun. Zigzagging occasionally.
Uses: Hedge, screen, wind break, specimen, container, crafts and construction.
Distribution: China.
Spread: Running.

The last photo is an example of a #1 Phyllostachys aureosulcata ‘Aureocaulis’ , however, it is not the exact plant that you will receive. It is grown in a #1, 1 gallon, size pot which is removed and your plant is shrink wrapped in plastic for shipping purposes. Plants over 4' will have to be bent to fit into our boxes. Even though a listing may be for 3', they can be taller depending on the time of year. Please let us know if you prefer that we cut your plant back to 4'. Bent plants may need to be staked to straighten them back out when you receive them. Occasionally a cane may break when bending or during shipping. This will not harm the plant.

SHIPPING

The cost of shipping includes FedEx ground in the continental US, packaging and handling, wilt proofing your order and moisture polymers to keep your plants watered during shipping. We can combine shipping of the same size plant for a reduced shipping rate. If you are purchasing other plants, additional #1 (one gallon) plants would cost $7.99 each to ship. Please request an invoice first. We ship on Mondays and Fridays only.

Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee the viability of our plants after arrival. Plants that perish due to neglect or factors beyond our control can not be guaranteed. We do not guarantee plants that perish due to customer neglect or factors outside our responsibility. The most common factors being: not watering a plant when necessary, extreme weather conditions such as heat and cold, plants that were not suitable for your climate.
Yellowing foliage from being in a box for up to a week is not uncommon. At times up to 50% yellowing can occur. Don't panic! It's not unusual. Your plant will eventually shed the yellow leaves. Bamboo goes through a few “growth spurts” from Spring through Fall. Your bamboo will add more foliage when it goes through its next period of growth. Water it what would be a normal rate for you area. Canes that have some damage from shipping may be cut back to just below the damage. This does not hurt bamboo and new shoots will emerge the next time your plant begins to put on new growth. Please use the Etsy messaging system if you have any questions about your plant when it arrives.
