Five handcast, lead-free, pewter bee buttons. Each button was cast individually into a hand-carved soapstone mold. They are what I like to call unique multiples, so they're each a little different, but all quite similar. Each button is 5/8" diameter, with a sturdy loop in back. The shank is approximately 5 mm tall. The hole is approximately 2 mm.
Some folks are reporting that in the picture the buttons appear to have a gold cast to them -- they are very very silver in person. The final photo indicates what my new packaging looks like.
This particular button is not based off a period button example. It is based off of manuscript depictions of bees.
These are the ones I based them off of:
British Library, Royal MS 12 C. xix, Folio 45r
British Library, Stowe MS 17, Folio 148r
Museum Meermanno, MMW, 10 B 25, Folio 37r
and I found the images at this site:
If you would like a different number of buttons, please convo me and I will set up a special listing with your quantity.
