Wear it with a T-shirt--it's a necklace. Wear it with a coat--it's a scarf. At the waist--a belt. It could also be used as a curtain tie-back . Brighten up a drab day by wearing this lovely floral scarf.
It's almost a flower sculpture with the round green stem, white gently curving petals and center yellow spike.
Calla lilies are so elegant and graceful I thought it would be a lovely design for a scarf. May be made either as regular knitting or knitted with wool and felted.
This three dimensional pattern looks complicated but it is actually quite easy. The stem and center spike (actually called a spadix) are knitted using I-cord. If you haven't knitted I-cord before don't worry it is very easy . The petal (spathe) is knitted separately and then sewn on.
Have you tried felting before? Felting changes the look and texture of the item. It is also easy. Just throw it into the washing machine and let it do the work. Or, if you like you can do it by hand, just using your kitchen sink and bubble wrap. The yarn must be at least 80% wool to felt.
Length: 60 inches (150 cm).
Flower itself is about 9 by 4 inches (23 X 10 cm) regular knitting and 7 x 3 in. (18 x 7 cm)felted
This PDF pattern includes written instructions and photos for knitting and felting this lovely calla lily scarf..
This item is also available already made (both versions).
An original design by La Tatine.
