This easy, advanced beginner level pattern provides instructions for making a set of four heart shaped nesting bowls. They are crocheted with wool yarn, felted in the washing machine, and then dyed with packets of powdered drink mix! The pattern will be available to you as a PDF download as soon as you submit payment.
Here is what you'll need: 400 yards pure virgin wool (not superwash) in a white or natural color (if you want to dye them yourself), worsted weight #4 -- I used Lion Brand Fisherman's Wool in Natural
Size I/9 crochet hook
1-3 packets of powdered drink mix per bowl (optional)
Skills required: Slip stitch (sl st), single crochet (sc), double crochet (dc), half double crochet (hdc), invisible ring (explained in pattern)
Gauge is not too important for this project. You can try making your bowls with a heavier yarn and bigger hook if that is what you have available. Your bowls will just turn out a bit bigger than mine. My bowls measure 3.5 to 6.5 inches across their widest parts.
You might think you can follow the instructions to crochet a heart bowl and skip the felting, but I will tell you now, it won't work :). They don't hold their shape well until felted.
