Item details

We currently (June 27, 2017) have 1 ball Winter Med; 3 - Fall Medium; and 25 - Spring Light.

The indigo dye that we use is made by the owners of the dye house we use. They grow their own indigo plants that are then used in making the dye baths. We are allowed to come into this dye house and use their dye baths for dying our yarns. Since we are their guests, we dye our yarns in the traditional way of dying that they use when dying their fabrics.
You can see a photo of the huge dye baths they use in photo 3.

Our yarn is hand spun by Tibetan artisans using a drop spindle and 100% Tibetan yak down fiber. It is not mass produced on machines in a factory. It is not blended with other fibers. It is completely handmade with the best yak down fiber we can find. This yarn is very soft, warmer than wool, and does not itch. Get your hands on this beautiful yarn!

Winter Medium: 130-160 yards/100g, 10-12 wpi
Fall Medium: 170-190 yards/100g, 17-18 stitches/4 inches
Light: 200-290 yards/100g, knits up to 21 stitches/4 inches 13-15 wpi

All of our yarn is balled into 100g balls and is as individual as the spinner who made it. Just as every knitter works each stitch into their own unique gauge, the spinners work fibers into their own unique yarn. As a result, the yardage for the yarns may vary.
Because we employ many Tibetan women to hand spin our yarn, we can provide yarns in bulky, medium and light weights.
Each yarn has been knitted into a swatch using a stockinette stitch to determine the gauges that are provided.

We are also able to ship from China, and Canada. International shoppers, please contact me for the best shipping option to your location.
At The Rocking Yak, we work hard to ensure our customer’s satisfaction. If you have any questions or need assistance finding the right yarn for your project, please contact us. We are happy to help.

Very nice yarn, soft and squishy. I have a pattern in mind for it and can't wait to start knitting.

I am happy to ship products internationally. I truly enjoy the connection I feel sharing in handicrafts that are produced all over the world. In shipping to other countries, I do my best to be as thorough as possible with the Post Office as to what is being shipped. If you live in a country that has restrictions on importing animal products, I will do my best to work with you on this matter.
