Legend has it that the beauty of the Kalayan Minaret, in Bukhara, Uzbekistan, is so inspiring that it was the only structure spared by Genghis Khan when he razed the city in the thirteenth century. Looking at it today, it is not difficult to see why this might be true. From its base to the top of its rotunda – approximately 150ft - section upon section of intricate detailing covers the exterior. One of these beautiful sections lent itself particularly well to the mosaic knitting technique, and inspired me to design this cowl.

An update was made to the pattern PDF file on January 6, 2014 to correct a typo on page 3. The pattern instructions originally read to cast on using a 2.75mm needle, then switch to a 2.75mm needle for the bottom border, which of course is redundant. The instructions should actually say to cast on using a 2.75mm needle (as before), but then switch to a 2.5mm needle for the bottom border.
