Downeast Shawlette Pattern

The Downeast region of Maine is renowned for its historic lighthouses, rocky coastline, and wildlife habitat. This shawlette was inspired by the natural beauty of Downeast Maine, and is the perfect accessory to help prevent a chill during cool weather any time of the year.

Crochet skills used in this pattern: sliding loop adjustable ring, chain, double crochet, single crochet, slip stitch through the back loop, and picot.

Finished piece measures 36 3⁄4 inches across the long edge, 26 inches along each of the short edges, and 18 inches from top to bottom. Use this size as a guideline, but feel free to adjust the pattern as you see fit.

Yarn requirements: Approximately 485 - 500 yards of light fingering weight (17-18 wpi) handspun or commercial yarn. The scarf in the photograph was made using my handpainted superwash bluefaced leicester wool sock yarn in the "Iris," "Sweet Pea," "Victorian Garden," and "Tanzanite" color ways.

Hook size: F (3.75 mm) or size needed to obtain an appropriate fabric for your shawlette.

This listing is for the pattern only. Yarn and a crochet hook are not included in this listing.

The pattern will be available for electronic download as a PDF document following receipt of your payment.

Additional policies

Every attempt is made to provide accurate photographs, however, be aware that color may vary from monitor to monitor.

I take great care to make sure that dye is heat set sufficiently and exhausted so there is minimal to no color run-off. Due to differences in water chemistry around the world, what runs clear for me may bleed a little for you. Please hand wash your items with like colors in cold water using a gentle wool soap (I recommend Eucalan) and lay flat to dry.
