Item details

3-Ribbon braid, 10 stitches total width; basic box-corner design

This is a set of patterns for a 3-ribbon "braid," with breaks and interwoven double-backs, designed to fit inside a 4"x6" frame at 18, 16 or 14 stitches per inch, or a 5"x7" frame at 18, 16, 14 or 12 stitches per inch, leaving space inside for another design. These will be useful if you want to hang a piece of embroidery on the wall without framing, or if it's a little too small for a standard-size frame to fit and look good.

Or pick your favorite braid-and-corner, and repeat 4 times for a square doily or pincushion border.

These 4 patterns all use the same 3-ribbon, 10-stitch braid, and the same boxed corner and "breaks;" they are a coordinated set, but are not identical as the interlacing and number and placement of "breaks" changes to accommodate the different stitch-counts.

Stitches used: Cross stitch; double-running (Holbein) stitch to outline the "ribbons" of the "braid."

SAMPLE PATTERN: The third picture is a free sample pattern. If you'd like to see how my format works for you before you purchase anything, right-click and print or save it to your computer.

NOTE: Frame sizes vary; I measured several standard frames at a mall store. Their picture-openings measured, respectively, approximately 3-5/8 x 5-5/8 and 4-5/8 x 6-5/8 inches, and I have allowed approximately a 3/8" margin between the outer edge of the knotwork, and the frame opening, all the way around.

STITCH COUNT: Stitch counts for all included patterns are on a chart in the 2nd photograph. Check your stitch count to be sure there's enough room for a pleasing margin between the frame and the knotwork, and between the knotwork and other design in the center.

WHAT YOU GET: 1, 9-page PDF document (8 Mb) containing 7 patterns, each shown with and without a light-gray background grid showing individual stitches.

The Fine Print:

This pattern is a Digital Document for Instant Download. However, I can e-mail it in smaller sections if you are on a slow connection; just let me know. (It may take a day or so to reformat, but I don't mind doing it.) No refunds; no returns, because how do you "return" a digital document?. If you have no printer or for other reasons need a printed copy of this pattern, e-mail me for special arrangements and printing/shipping charges, which will be what it costs me to print out and mail the pages.
