This is a pdf crochet pattern--not the actual crocheted items. This pattern is written in English, in US terms.

Celebrate the holidays with a sweet little manger scene in the amigurumi style. Made with worsted-weight yarn, this set includes Mary, Joseph, baby Jesus, angel, three wise men, and animals.

Skill level

Confident early crocheter to Intermediate. These figures are made mostly by working single crochet in rounds without joining, and instructions are given for how to do this.

Standing figures are about 6” tall; animals are 3 1/2”=4” tall, and baby in manger is 2 1/2” x 4”.

Worsted weight yarn in colors specified in each pattern, or colors of choice. Pieces shown in photo were made with Red Heart Super Saver, and I have also made them with Hobby Lobby I Love This Yarn, as well as Lion Brand Vanna’s Choice. Acrylic yarn works really well for amigurumi, but natural fibers or blends may be used also. The most important thing is to use a small enough hook so that stitches are firm and stuffing does not show, and especially if you use cotton yarn this is important because cotton doesn’t have the spring to it that acrylic has. I have also made these with dk weight yarn and one or two sizes smaller hook. The figures are smaller, and adorable. Stylecraft Special DK, in all its wonderful array of colors, is my favorite acrylic DK.

F or G crochet hook for worsted weight (Aran) and C or D hook for DK weight

3/8” half-ball shank buttons or other eyes as desired

Tapestry needle

Sewing needle and thread for attaching eyes

Polyester fiberfill

Safety Notice

Buttons and small parts can be a hazard to small children. To be safe, all animals intended for use as toys should have embroidered eyes.

These were so much fun to make! Only made a few so far but such fun! I’ve needed to make notes along the way (like when to add the eyes or sew on the arms) so I know what order to do things in.
