This Vintage Disston hand saw is a real treasure. We found it among several old tools and saws from my father-in-law, who was a carpenter and tool collector. It has definitely been used, as you can see from the photos. The wood handle is worn smooth and has a piece missing . You can see the handle in the photos. The blade has definitely been used, but is in good rustic condition as you can see from the photos. The blade has 10 TPI ( teeth per inch) as indicated by the 10 on etched into the blade.
The length of the piece from the top of the handle to the tip of the blade, measures 29.25".
Judging from the Medallion, and my limited research results,I think this saw is vintage late 1940's to early 1950's.
The medallion reads: Disston PHILA with their logo (post 1895) and 2 stars on either side in the center.
Disston made hand saws and squares beginning in 1840, even forging their own steel for the blades. Disston was sold to H.K. Porter in 1955 and Disston hand saws were no longer made. The Disston name still exists as a division of a Swedish tool Co.
Perfect gift for the tool aficionado or rustic decoration!!!
