Item details

Description:
This is a light saturation sunstone with beautiful wisps of schiller (microscopic copper crystals) oriented so that they create a wonderful and warm gemmy glow. Cut in a special trilliant design optimized for sunstone. I mined this gemstone myself at the Dust Devil Mine outside of Plush, Oregon and then precision faceted this gem. Completely natural and untreated.

Custom Orders:
Please note that I offer custom cutting on your sunstone rough. If you have an exceptional piece of sunstone that needs faceting please feel free to message me.

Carat Weight:
3.91 carats

$Cost/Carat:
$50/carat

Measures:
11.2 x 11.2 x 11.2 mm, 6.8mm Depth

Color:
Light Pink-Orange with a small amount of schiller (giving the stone a desirable glow)

Clarity:
VVS. Light wisps of schiller. These are microscopic copper crystals. Also a few larger copper crystal platelets that show up as reflected specks in the photo.

A note on Sunstone Photography, Lighting and Color:

These are gems born in the high desert of Oregon and befitting of their name- show their best colors under strong sunlight.

Sunstones are one of the trickiest stones to take photos of accurately. I've found it best to take photos under strong, reflected sunlight. Studio-lit photos and clouded sunlight create some funny colored stone colors which you may see a lot of on the internet.

In real-life they are a tiny bit lighter saturation than in most photos and range in color from straw yellow, to all shades of pink-orange and red. Rarely, green, teal-blue and bicolored green/red stones are encountered.

FAQs

I don't offer ring resizing at this time. A good, local jeweler (experienced with vintage/antique jewelry) will be able to offer a better measurement and fit for your finger. Keep in mind that prices typically range from $35-$60 and most re-sizes can go up or down +/- 2 sizes.

I guarantee all of my gems as natural and as described. I deal only with natural, untreated gem rough and cut a gem myself from either self-collected gem rough or sourced directly from an artisan miner. Rest assured that you will be getting genuine, natural gems and never an imitation or deceptively treated gem. There are a lot of fakers and un-knowledgable dealers out there.

Many of the pieces of jewelry that I offer are antique / vintage pieces and need a new owner to appreciate and take good care of them. I recommend that you remove jewelry prior to washing / showering, any sort of vigorous activity and sleeping. I take on the role of a curator when listing and describing antique jewelry pieces. When describing their condition I thoroughly list the defects, repairs and refurbishments that have been performed on them. Any issues of concern (like loose/worn prongs, worn bands, worn bezels) will always be mentioned in my listings. Same goes for any repair or restoration work performed in the past.
