Item details

*****This is a pattern on how to knit a shawl not an actual shawl.*****

*****This pattern is also available as a part of the e-book “Variations on a Theme”****

“Grandes études” pattern is a set of two cowls knitted in a simple slipped stitch pattern. The slight tweak to the pattern gives an option of knitting two cowls that look completely different while using same slipped stitch technique. Both cowls are fast and easy projects. Enjoy!

Finished Size:
The sample cowl knitted using slipped stitch Variation 1 after blocking measures 140 cm (55 inches) long and 28cm (11 inches) wide. The sample cowl knitted using slipped stitch Variation 2 after blocking measures 140cm (55 inches) long and 31 cm (12 inches) wide. You can easily make your cowls bigger or smaller by changing the number repeats.

Yarn: The sample cowl knitted using slipped stitch Variation 1 was knitted with:
Classic Elite Yarns Fresco (60% Wool, 30% Alpaca, 10% Angora, Sport 5ply).
3 skeins = 483.8 yards (442.4 m) of colorway “5303 Cinder”
The sample cowl knitted using slipped stitch Variation 2 was knitted with:
ColourMart Merino/Mohair 2/16NM (80% Merino, 20% Mohair, Fingering 4ply wt)
0.65 skeins = 845.0 yards (772.7m) of colorway “Gris meddio”. Yarn held double.

Pattern is both charted and written and includes Slipped Stitch lace photo tutorial.

I love the way this cowl looks and wish my attempt at making it had turned out better. Unfortunately, this turned out to be more complicated than a simple slip stitch pattern for me.

Perfect! The instructions a very detailed with a lot of photos and helpful explanations to abbreviations etc. This year I'm determined to give mostly handmade items as Xmas presents, so these cowls will make beautiful gifts for loved ones. Can't wait to get started! Thank you, Diana!
