The Standard Book of Quilt Making and Collecting was originally copyrighted in 1949. This softcover edition was printed in 1959 by Dover Publications and unabridged from the original.
In her introduction Ms. Ickis talks of all the benefits of quilting and how women have done this craft for ages. The chapters are nicely laid out to take you through each step: Planning your quilt How to make your quilt The quilt's design and its parts Patterns and how to use them and on through Quilting and Tufting. Later chapters in the book cover other topics such as Collecting quilts as a hobby Famous American quilts and how to draft their patterns and a wonderful chapter on the Story of Quilt Making.
This softcover book is in very good condition, showing very little wear for its age. It measures 7" by 10" and contains 274 pages. The original owner did put a book label on the flyleaf.
The book has black and white illustrations on almost every page, giving step by step directions to work on several patterns. The last four pages comprise a full index of all the patterns mentioned in the book.
