This vintage sewing instruction book, Butterick New Sewing Book, was written specifically to show you the quick and easy way to sew. Contents are arranged so that it will be very easy for you to find just the information you want. Use the convenient coloured tabs on the upper right corners for a quick identification of sections.

Contents include:

Your Figure and Your Face
Measurements
Alterations
Consumer Buying - How to shop efficiently for sewing tools, fabrics and notions
Get the Most our of Your Pattern - cut, mark, assemble easily
Pressing - includes free pattern to make a Press Mitt
Important Sewing Techniques
Children's Sewing is Fun - how to measure tots; Flat constructions, exclusive method used in Butterick Patterns

This vintage book is an 80 page softcover, staple-bound - copyright 1952. The cover shows some signs of wear, mainly to spine and cover edges and several pages have dog-eared corners, but all pages are clean and intact. I think these items have a faint smoke smell to them, but they have been aired for many months in our non-smoking home.

Included are two bonus patterns that did not come originally with the book, but were in it when I acquired it. One is a full-sized pattern to make a Rubbermaid Sewing Susan cover, no. M4-2810. The other is a 1971 Family Circle Magazine in-book pattern. This pattern makes a vintage style summer dress in daytime fabrics - it is short-sleeved, knee length, with flap pockets and epaulettes, and was designed by Family Circle's Fashion Editor, Jane Benford. There are cutting lines for sizes Small ( 6 - 8 ), Medium (10 - 12 ), and Large ( 14 - 16 ), but no measurements are given - see a vintage pattern sizing chart for current sizing.
