Item details

THIS IS A KNITTING PATTERN NOT A KNITTED ITEM.

Celtic Medallion mittens are traditional colorwork mittens with two color ribbing and a peasant thumb. The motif designs were taken from early Pictish artwork and the Book of Kells. The combination of colors is inspired by an early celtic bowl. The pattern includes charts, photos and written instructions.

Skills: knitting in the round, stranded knitting with two colors, reading a chart, increasing/ decreasing, and Kitchener stitch.

Die Anleitung ist auf deutsch erhältlich.

Finished measurements: woman’s medium:
palm circumference 8 inches (20.5 cm)
Length (ribbing included) - 10 inches (25.5 cm).

They can be knitted in other sizes by changing the gauge, the yarn or both. They’ve been successfully knit in both small and large sizes.

Yardage
The pattern is done in fingering weight yarn in 6 colors. The yardage required varies from 142 yards to 1 yard, depending on the the color.

Needles:
US#1 (2.25mm) & US#2 (2.75mm) DPN (set of 5)
(Ribbing is worked on smaller needles.)

Mittens are worked in the round from the cuff up.
