Item details

Our ROOTER is a hand forged garden tool with a long cutting fork designed to penetrate soil and cut off tap root weeds, like dandelions, well below the surface The edges of the notched out "V" at the end are sharpened to aid the cutting process. The offset handle provides leverage to pry, lift, and pop out weeds. It can assist a small shovel or trowel in transplanting by cutting through roots to free a plant and pry and lift it out.

The ROOTER can be used to cut asparagus and rhubarb.

The overall length of the ROOTER is approximately 13". The steel end is approximately 8" and the handle is 5".

FAQs

To remove surface rust that naturally forms on the steel, rub the metal with a wire brush, steel wool, or synthetic scrubby pad. Than apply a coating of oil, such as linseed oil, an oil based wood finish, or even cooking oil, to the steel. Applying oil to the wood handle periodically will help keep it in good condition. The sharp edges of the tools should be touched up when necessary with a good quality file. It is helpful to put the tool in a vise to steady it.

Ashfield Tools are high quality garden tools handcrafted in W Mass. They are sturdy, sharp, long lasting and designed to enhance the garden experience. Each tool is hand-forged with high-carbon tool steel using traditional blacksmith techniques. The blades of our hoes, plows, trowels, and viper weeders are made from 400 series cutlery grade stainless steel which will hold a sharp edge. During the forging process the surface blackens and loses some rust resistance. Any rust that forms will be superficial and can easily be removed with a wire brush or abrasive pad (see Care above). Each tool is wire brushed and an oil finish is applied to both the steel surfaces and the wood handles. The birch and ash handles are made in Maine.

If our tools break for any reason, we will repair them or replace them.

LOVE this tool! I also purchased a whole set (with a rack) around Christmas time from Ashfield. The quality is impossible to beat - I'm obsessed with the weeder tool (it's like having a surgical tool for the garden - so sharp and effective!). This little guy has already proven his worth by helping us remove dandelions and thistles -- surely it will have many more uses as the summer continues. Thanks again!
