8 pieces of small pink and purple sea glass collected from the San Francisco Bay Area.
Pink Sea Glass is most likely from housewares called "Depression Glass" from the Depression Era. Some Pink Sea Glass come from originally clear glass that was clarified with Selenium. Over time the sun causes the selenium to oxidize, creating the pink color.
Purple Glass has been made since 2,500 B.C. by adding manganese oxide to glass mixture. Manganese purple glass was most popular during 1880-1915, when Germany was the worlds biggest supplier. After World War I, Selenium was the source to make purple glass since Manganese supplies had been depleted. The odds of finding amethyst is 1 in 200-300 collected.
