I believe that with all the time you take to crochet something by hand, you should really love the yarns you choose!

Normally I'm not a fan of acrylics, but I had to make an exception for Cherub Aran. For one thing, it's one of the yarns recommended by Halos of Hope for chemo caps for cancer patients. Why? Apparently in addition to causing hair loss, chemo also causes extreme scalp sensitivity. Only the softest yarns will do if you want to make a hat that won't irritate a chemo patient. If this yarn is soft enough for that, can you imagine the cuddliness it would create in an amigurumi? And the subtle sheen really brings out the stitch definition!

Another reason for embracing acrylics: when making gifts for charity, you never know whether or not the recipient has any fiber allergies. Many charities specifically request acrylic donations for this reason. Plus, acrylic is machine-washable, which makes it easy for the recipient to care for it.

BONUS: Just one skein of Cherub Aran makes my children's Cap from St. Nicholas pattern, which is available for free on my blog:

Made from 55% nylon/45% acrylic, this yarn is machine washable and comes prewound in a center-pull skein.

Made in China.

IS THIS YARN FAIR TRADE? I personally spoke with a representative from Cascade Yarns to find out the answer to this question. Cascade Yarns is a family owned business founded in the 1980s with the mission to provide quality yarns at a fair price, but these fair prices do not come at the expense of the quality of life for the workers who make them. Cascade works with small, family-owned factories around the world and has personally visited these factories to ensure both fair working conditions and quality yarn standards. Furthermore, by purchasing from my Etsy shop, your dollars will help to support my own family here in the US.

My handling time is 1-3 business days (though I strive for 1 day). For transit time, USPS has handy interactive maps for you to determine how long your package will take to arrive at your address.

For regular shipping, use this map and code 201 as the originating point:

For Priority shipping, use this map and code 20110:

I regret that I can no longer offer international shipping due to the fact that tracking becomes questionable after the package leaves the US border and I cannot guarantee that your package will arrive safely.

If time is of the essence, please let me know so I can ensure speediness. I aim to get orders out the next business day, but I work from home between homeschooling my daughter, so occasionally an order gets delayed a day or two if life gets in the way and I don't know a rush is needed. If you get in touch with me and place your order before noon Eastern time, I can usually get your order in the mail for you the same day.

Use the links to the maps above to determine transit time to your address and add one day to it (unless you've received confirmation from me that I will ship your package the same day). This is the fastest I can get your package to you. If you happen to live in the DC or Baltimore Metros, shipping time with Priority Mail is 1 day.

For your convenience, I offer both regular (First Class) and Priority Mail shipping options. Priority Mail includes up to $100 of insurance for free, in case your item gets lost in the mail. If you are concerned about your item getting lost, please select Priority Mail. I will not be held responsible for items lost in the mail when shipped with the First Class option; choose First Class shipping at your own risk.

Kits and handmade items are sent via Priority Mail by default.

HANDMADE ORDERS: A 50% non-refundable deposit is required before work begins. This deposit goes toward covering the cost of my materials. The remaining balance must be paid before the finished item ships. (See also my Refund Policy.)

My home studio is also home to cats, dogs, and various small animals. While the studio itself is a pet-free zone, my products may have been exposed to pet hair and dander in transit to and from the studio. Please keep this in mind if you have pet allergies. I do my best to keep the exposure to a minimum.
