Threads Magazine #73 from November 1997
This interesting magazine contains a wealth of information. This issue is OOP, and is a duplicate from my collection. In fact, if I am reading correctly, at Threads Magazine dot com - every issue below #96 is out of print - that is as of November 2013. In attempting to have every issue #1 to present (I think it's #179), I sometimes need to purchase a group of several in order to get the one magazine I have been looking for. That might seem like a total waste of time, but out of #179 magazines, I was able to complete my collection!! I will have to turn my obsessive compulsive hoarding in another direction soon!!
A word about the photographs. They show the front cover, the back cover, and the storage I use so that you can be assured your magazine will be clean and protected. First, the magazine as stored in a zipper top bag, and second, the magazine in the zipper top bag stored in a plastic magazine rack. Have I mentioned I am ever so slightly obsessive and compulsive?? That works to the buyer's benefit in this instance.
A note to individuals who have never seen a Threads magazine. Threads first issue was, I believe, the Oct/Nov 1985 issue. It is large by today’s standards, 9" x 11" - although the first 26 issues were slightly taller, at 9" x 12". Threads magazine is not simply a sewing magazine, it covers knitting, crochet, felting, heirloom, weaving on a loom - shoemaking!!!!! Each issue is a unique and unexpected treasure trove of information. I highly recommend you purchase one issue. You will quickly know if this is a magazine you would like to see more of. Some of the more recent back issues are available at Taunton Press, the manufacturer of numerous fine magazines covering many subjects - I generally go directly to the THREADS website at Threads Magazine dot com. By far the most available source of back issues, though, would be here on Etsy, at an online auction, occasionally at a thrift store.... It is possible to purchase a DVD with the entire collection years 1985 - present, available on Threadsmagazine.com. The cost for this was $100 as of November, 2013. My personal preference is to hold an issue in my hands, and when I need an OOP issue, I always check Etsy first.
The condition of this magazine is very good. There is very slight discoloration next to the fold on the front cover, but no tears, no noted dogears - the top right hand corner in photograph one shows a reflection, not damage to the magazine.
Included in this issue:
Tassels, Tassels, Tassels! Stenciling Workshop by Diane Ericson Bargello by the piece
Zip it up by Susan Khalje Freehand quilting The Master Tailor: Richard Tyler
Custom Leggings A primer on Sewing Knits Matching Plaids
If you wonder what an 18 year old magazine can teach you, remember that Threads magazine has never been a follower of fads, although the information was current when it was printed, it translates to today. For example, the designer tips gained by examining a suit made by California designer Richard Tyler is timeless information.
