Handsome with its curling horns, the Whitefaced Woodland is a large, hill sheep whose lofty fleece is much sought after by handspinners. Alternatively called Penistone, a name which was attributed to it by its proximity to the sheep fairs, held at Penistone in Yorkshire since 1699. The Whitefaced Woodland is a down breed that has been classified as vunerable by the Rare Breeds Survival Trust. As recently as the 1970's this breed was classed as endangered but has seen a growth in the breeding females which is still listed as less than 900!
The breed has Cheviot and Merino's in its family tree which must be why the fleece is one of the softest of the hill breed fleeces.
These exceptional raw locks come from a farm in Lancashire, United Kingdom, and by working with this fibre, rural farming of unique breeds in kept alive. Staple length is about 3 to 6 inches and 28 to 32 microns.
Offered in 1 oz. portions.

Shipping & policies
Given the wide variation in shipping costs, I have the high end listed as a safeguard for my costs. If for example someone were to purchase 2 ounces of fleece the shipping cost would be representative of actual. If someone purchased 12 ounces of fleece the shipping cost would likely be too high. For any shipping overages of $2 or more than the actual shipping cost, I will happily refund the difference, and have done so for any applicable sales.
Please convo me if you wish to have a custom listing set up for specific purchases and possible combined shipping costs.
