From FeatheredBirdie's signature red envelope range, stamped in gold: a mother kangaroo with her baby (joey)
Each envelope has been stamped in gold with the Chinese characters "fu, lu, shou", meaning "luck, prosperity, longevity" and a mother kangaroo and her joey. The animals are depicted in quite fine gold lines. FeatheredBirdie's shop URL is stamped on the back of the envelopes in gold ink.
The kangaroo is a native marsupial (pouched mammal) of Australian and very iconic. This design would be perfect for a baby's traditional Chinese "1st month anniversary".
It is a little difficult to photograph these envelopes because of the reflective properties of the gold ink. The envelopes themselves are made from red 100gsm, 100% recycled paper. Each is approximately 9cm (3.5") wide and 17cm (6.7") tall. I hand-cut the envelopes from paper, then score and assemble each envelope. So they are not made from pre-cut cardstock and each will be slightly different.
Red envelopes are traditionally used for cash gifts to children at Chinese New Year and for bridal couples at their wedding receptions and tea ceremonies. This set of characters makes the envelopes suitable for Chinese New Year, for weddings, or for those hard-to-buy for teenagers' birthday presents, among others. They are also used for the traditional baby's 1st month anniversary cash gift.

Shipping & policies
Owing to the complicated way Australia Post calculates postage rates - by both size and by weight - I have offered shipping rates for journals *based on journal dimensions and weights* and shipping rates for envelopes *based on envelope dimensions and weights*. If you purchase both envelopes and journals, I will refund to you the differences in shipping costs after dispatch and I have the final actual postage price.
SHIPPING METHODS AND TIMES
I will usually dispatch items within 1-3 business days and will definitely let you know if there has been any delay. For Australian customers, expect items to arrive within 2-6 days of my shipping them. For international customers, expect up to 3 weeks for delivery (may be as short as 10 days for New Zealand).
Standard shipping is by regular postage, which does not provide tracking. Registered post (where you sign on receiving your item) and express post options are available as shipping upgrades. If you have special shipping requirements, please convo me for a quote.
International customers are responsible for any relevant taxes or customs issues specific to their country: this includes any delays by customs.
SPECIAL NOTE ABOUT INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING
As you are probably aware, Australia is a very long distance away from many parts of the world. Express international post from Australia means that the item will be on a flight out of Australia the day after posting, *not* that it will reach you the next day. The fastest delivery from Australia is by express courier international (which is extremely expensive) and this *still* will only guarantee delivery within 4 days.
I accept bank transfers from Australian customers and PayPal and credit card (direct checkout) from Australia and worldwide.
Returns & exchanges
Returns are accepted within 35 days of the shipping date. The item(s) must be unused and in their original condition. Please contact me if you are returning an item, within 7 days of receiving it; I will send the refund when I receive the item. Shipping costs are not refundable. Return shipping costs are the responsibility of the buyer
Custom orders are not returnable.
For damaged items or items lost in shipping, please contact me to discuss whether you would like a replacement or refund, as well as whether to return a damaged item. If it is agreed to return a damaged item to me, I will refund the costs of shipping to the buyer and the return shipping costs.
Presently, I accept custom orders for the stamped Red Envelopes (gold on red, or shimmer brown on cream coloured paper). So if you would like a particular combination of stamped designs, please let me know. I also accept custom orders for both stab-stitched and Japanese multisection journals: see my About page for the range of colours currently available for journals.
At this time, I am not able to accept custom orders for envelopes or journals that use patterned papers: most of the items I have currently listed which include patterned papers are "one-off" designs.
ACID FREE PAPER?
Please note that the journals are all acid free unless stated otherwise. This includes the paper, the adhesives and the inks.
The Chinese Red Envelopes, however, are NOT acid free. The red paper from which they are made is not acid free, although the mixture of papers I use to decorate them include some acid free ones.
