Item details

"Politeness is to human nature what warmth is to wax." -Arthur Schopenhauer

With use, your waxed canvas or waxed cotton things may lose some of their wax finish at points of heavy wear or creasing. Martexin wax is ideal for restoring water repellency because it matches the wax compound used by the fabric manufacturer.

1-1/2 ounces of wax in can. Can is 3" diameter, 1" deep. Ships by first class mail.

Before going to the trouble of re-waxing, first decide if it's really needed. Many scratches and creases can be fixed simply by getting the waxed fabric warm and rubbing the spot well with your fingers. Your warm hands, warm sunshine, or a hair dryer can heat the waxed fabric enough that you can work adjoining wax into the area of concern.

The next test step is to spray the spot with water. Count ten seconds. If water beads are still standing on the spot, chances are it doesn't need waxing. If water absorbs into the fabric, the wax needs help.

Do not ever wash a waxed fabric item in detergent or in a washing machine. Doing so will take off ALL the wax, leaving you with a great big job of re-waxing the whole thing. Instead, allow the item to develop a patina, much as you would do with a leather bag or garment. Scrub gently with cold water, and perhaps a tiny amount of hand soap, to remove loose matter.

Let the item air-dry, then brush away any remaining loose dirt. With your warm fingers, rub some Martexin wax on the spots you are treating. Massage it into the fabric with your fingers. Pay special attention to seams. Then put the item out into warm sunshine or heat it gently with a hair dryer. This will help melt wax into the fibers and the existing wax, resulting in an even luster which will dull

Give your new wax job a day or two to settle in, then test again with water. Repeat waxing if necessary.

FAQs

I do not wholesale my items.

All orders are wrapped informally with kraft paper and tied with either red cotton twine or natural hemp twine, as available.

Waxed canvas should never be washed because that will remove the wax. Instead, hose it off, damp wipe it, vacuum it, or brush it. Eventually the wax will become worn and should be reapplied (a simple process). White cotton canvas will become "dirty" - there is no way around that! I suggest that you embrace this natural process! Contact me if you would like me to pre-grubby a white canvas item by rubbing blacksmith's coal on it.

Not available.

Apron sizes correspondent reasonably closely to men's tee shirt sizing.

If postal tracking indicates a package has been delivered, and it is addressed to the address the buyer gave me, and in spite of all this you have not received the package, contact your post office. I take no responsibility for refunding or replacing the item.

We purchased wax this to go along with the carving apron. Our son will apply it to his apron for years to come.

Ordered this just in case I need it. Haven't yet, but as with everything else from this shop, it arrived quickly after placing the order, and without issues.
