This online course explores different ways to divide space and fill it, ways to build on small units called motifs or scrumbles, and dimensional textures you can create with looping. A focus of the course is helping you learn to design in this technique, then shift design to the barely-conscious level that makes working freeform so much fun. Freeform is what I had to leave out when I wrote my book New Age Looping ( https://www.etsystudio.com/listing/63213878/book-new-age-looping-fiber-art-technique ). One more chapter and I wouldn't have been able to bind the book. But since the very first survey I did of the pilot group for the New Age Looping Basics ecourse, this is the online course most students want. I'm thrilled to have it available, and look forward to seeing freeform samples and explorations from all over the world!
This is not an entry-level course. It's for students with a solid foundation of basic looping skill. You'll need to know how to make round and oval starts, how to work back and forth, how to manage thread additions, how to work increases and decreases while controlling the allocation of thread, and how to work needle chains and other live edge equivalents. You can learn those skills (and much more) in my online courses New Age Looping Basics ( https://www.etsystudio.com/listing/95079899/online-workshop-new-age-looping-basics ) and Cross-Knit Looping ( https://www.etsystudio.com/listing/117050101/online-workshop-cross-knit-looping ).
The Freeform Looping course includes 12 videos (more than 90 minutes total) plus 5 left-handed videos. There are three PDF handouts plus a left-handed handout, which you can download from Etsy upon purchase of the course. You'll receive your username and password to the course site via email. The online classroom is open 24/7. This is a self-paced course with no expiration date: If work, travel, family commitments or other events conflict with your class, you can just put it on hold until the timing is better for you.
This course is taught entirely in English.
