If you can knit and purl, you can make this stylish hat! Chunky yarn makes this classic British Newsboy Cap a fast knit.
I'm calling this an intermediate skill level pattern because there are some increases and decreases, and you do have a pattern to your knit and purl stitches that creates this modified version of an enlarged basket weave stitch.
The brim is knitted separately and then stitched onto the hat.
Sizes are adult medium and large.
Full instructions for making hat and brim are included, and special stitches are explained in the directions for m1k, m1p, and w&t (make 1 knit, make 1 purl, wrap and turn).
Materials needed: --140 to 180 yards of chunky yarn, depending on which size you're making --16-inch circular #9 and #10 needles --Stitch marker --Plastic top from dessert topping or yogurt container, or quilter's template plastic--inexpensive and flexible--for inserting into knitted brim.
The grey hat pictured is knitted with The Fibre Company's Tundra and a thin carry-along silver metallic yarn called Scoubidou. The hat with autumn colors is made from Colinette Prism.
