The alluring frailty of the Victorian lady carried over into the early 1900s, but as women entered the work force and began participating in outdoor sports, they needed a more practical and casual wardrobe. The combination of skirt and shirtwaist (blouse) was born to meet these changing needs of the early 20th-century American woman.

Folkwear's gored Walking Skirt is smoothly fitted in front and flares from a narrow waistband to street or full length. Folkwear's original is made of linen and decorated with cutwork embroidery, also known as Broderie Anglaise. Even though the Victorian bustle was passe by this time, the voluptuous S-curve shape was still desirable, so the tiny gathers below the back waist provide the fullness that gives this characteristic shape. The skirt is finished with a buttoned placket at center back.

A typical design motif of the time is included, along with instructions for optional cutwork embroidery.

This pattern goes very well with Folkwear's #205 Gibson Girl Blouse.
