I have used a Hawaiian printed fabric to piece a modern kaleidoscope quilt block for this handmade and machine quilted pincushion. There is only one fabric used in the construction of this kaleidoscope block: an off white with a deep orange print.
Two blocks have been used to make the pincushion. One kaleidoscope block is used for the front of the pincushion, and one kaleidoscope block is used for the back of the pincushion. The batting is cotton. The blocks have been quilted with a variegated warm gold to orange thread. The pincushion measures approximately 4 by 4 inches.
The pincushion is filled with brown rice. The rice provides stability along with a little weight and acts as an organic humidity regulator. Rice is a desiccant. Desiccants absorb moisture If your sewing room has humidity, the rice will help your needles stay oxide free.
