Item details

Update 2/11/2018. I am waiting for my next shipment of lumber to arrive. In the meantime, I have one standard and one medium and large only ready for immediate shipping. All other sizes/quantity will require about one week of build time.

If you’re like me, you have a lot of paintbrushes in your work area, and they’re probably stuffed into a glass or mug. Picking the one you want is often a pain, and every now and again a brush gets pressed up against another and the bristles get bent.

I’ve had a few paintbrush holders in the past, but inevitably, my brushes always ended up migrating back to the mug, because none of the holders were designed to survive my work area, or weren’t designed to fit the multitude of smaller crafting brushes that I use.

Most of the commercial brush holders I’ve used were either glorified boxes, or weren’t designed for my brush assortment. They tended to be made of flimsy plastic requiring assembly, and would easily “disassemble” themselves if I accidentally bumped into them with one of my work pieces. In addition, I tended to find most to be designed for longer artist brushes used in fine art oil and acrylic painting, or an unholy compromise in length that didn’t handle smaller or longer brushes particularly well.

I eventually got tired of the mug, and made a holder for the brushes I used. The brush holder you are purchasing is compact 10”(w) x 3”(d) x 5”(h) wooden brush holder made out 12mm (about 1/2") sanded 9-ply birch. The piece is assembled using half-blind dovetails for strength and appearance, so it should survive more of a beating than the brush holder you currently use. Since it’s wood, you can easily screw hangers into it, or anchor it to a workbench if you’re serious about it staying put.

The standard configuration (shown) has 34 small 1/4” openings, 17 medium 1/3” openings, and 17 large 1/2" openings. Obviously, the paintbrushes in the picture aren’t included, but they provide an idea of the scale. The large openings are also good for smaller markers, such as standard Sharpie markers, etc., but are too small for the square Copic markers.

At $16.50 (plus tax if ordered in California), these are no more expensive than the ones you’ll find from other sources. If you have a large assortment of brushes, you can afford to buy two! Sent by Priority Mail for quick delivery.

You may also purchase alternate configurations, including:
• The standard configuration but with 1/3” openings substituted for the 1/4” openings (Medium and large only);
• All small or all medium (85 small or medium openings)
• All large (43 large openings)

Perfect for my needs. I am using them (2) for brushes and sculpting tools. The only down side is some of my tools are too short. That is not the holders fault but I might him to make one that will hold them also. Fast delivery and a very attentive seller
