Item details

An effortless pullover-style girl’s dress with a slightly raised waistline. Reversible scoop and V-necks, lined bodice, and a gathered skirt. Options to include a Peter Pan collar, large patch pocket, or a sewn-in wide tie belt.

My goal with the Una Dress was to make an extremely simple and quick to put together pattern for woven fabrics. I cut the pattern so that it did not require any buttonholes, zippers, or other time-consuming elements. (Sewing for kids should be fun!) The bodice lining technique hides any stitching, giving the dress an easy-to-achieve professional finish. An intermediate sewer should be able to complete the dress from start to finish in two hours or less, and a novice should be able to work it out in an afternoon. There are many ways to customize the dress, so you can use the pattern many times over.

The dress can be cut from 1 yard or less of 45" or wider fabric, plus 1/3 yard of lining fabric. Extra fabric may be desired for a fuller skirt or other elements. A detailed yardage chart by size is included with the instructions. I love making the dress in vintage cottons, and it's perfect for all the fun quilting cotton prints available now. It looks very chic in a rayon or linen with more drape, and can be made dressy in a crisp satin.

This listing is for a PDF download for the dress pattern and detailed instructions with step-by-step photos and illustrations. The pattern includes seam allowances. The instructions include a cutting layout and tips for customization, for sewing the dress in knits, or for making the dress fully reversible/lined.

Four sizes are included: 2/3, 4/5, 6/7, and 8/9. The cut of the dress is stylishly loose- think 90's retro babydoll. A child should be able to wear this dress for several years-- just watch the hemline rise! The optional sewn-in belt can lend a more fitted, dressy look.

The pattern has been thoroughly tested as I have been making and selling the Una dress for some time now. To see more examples of the dress sewn up, see lalacircuit.com and search for Una.
