MIniature Bow Tie Quilt Blocks, Blue Hand-Pieced Blocks Made From 20th C. Fabrics, Finished Size 3 3/4" (9.5cm), Free US Shipping
I spent a great deal of time during the early 1990s learning traditional American quilting techniques and these charming bow tie blocks are mementos from that time of my life. The chubby little bow tie blocks are individually cut and hand pieced from my collection of 20th century scraps. The finished size of each of these 16 blue blocks is 3 3/4" (9.5cm). They are pressed and ready to use in your own retro craft project. This item ships free to US destinations and international rates have been adjusted for the same savings. Please read shop announcement for sale information!
When I started to make quilts, I collected popular fabric lines during the 1990s and acquired scraps from the estates of quilters. The scraps in this collection of blocks represent the decades from the 1940s through the early 1990s. There are fabrics from designer lines such as The Smithsonian and Aunt Gracie's Scrap Basket, a reproduction 1930s line. There are some leftover scraps from making my own clothes during the 1980s. The more modern fabrics were purchased new, but some of the older vintage cloth may have been salvaged from clothing. All of the fabric, regardless of source, was preshrunk by me before cutting.
I traced all of the shapes and cut each one out with scissors. The tiny running stitches were achieved by using a Japanese hand sewing technique. The ends of the lines of stitching are back stitched. The unfinished block is 4 1/4" (10.8cm) square. When finished with the traditional quilting 1/4" seam allowance, they measure 3 3/4" (9.5cm) square. Each block has been pressed and is ready to use in your own retro crafts. Hand pieced blocks give finished items a luxurious feel because the stitching is not rigid like a line of machine stitching.
