Item details

This listing is for one Eterusia repleta moth, ready for your project.
This species is definitely in my Top 5 Favorite list. Everything about them is gorgeous! They have a satiny finish that seems to glow in the light. Both the upper and undersides are equally beautiful. No picture can really do them justice; you won't be disappointed with these. The blue color is really out of this world, and it covers more of the body than these pictures can show. They have about a 6cm wingspan, but the female is larger than the male. Both sexes are colored similarly. I don't know which sex you will receive; it's whatever I have on hand. The first picture is of the top side of the moth; the underside is pictured in the second photo. The other three photos are here to illustrate the available methods of preparation:

Please select whether you'd like the butterfly spread, unmounted/papered, or laminated (wings only). Descriptions follow:
"Spread" means I have opened the wings for you. All you have to do is glue into your project.
"Unmounted/Papered" means I have done nothing. The butterfly is in it's collection envelope, with its wings folded up, as pictured in the example shown in the last photo here. This is an option for people who know how to spread their own specimens. Want to learn how? I sell a Butterfly Spreading Kit in my shop!
"Wings Laminated" means that I have removed the wings from the body and have laminated them separately for you.
Please see the last three photos in this listing for pictorial examples of the above preparations.

To glue into your project (for example, into a shadowbox frame), just use some Elmer's school glue, or whatever you have lying around. No special tools required. Tweezers for handling might make the job easier.
Here's a link to my Butterfly Spreading Kit, if you'd like to learn how to open the specimens yourself; it comes with all the tools you need plus 12 practice butterflies: https://www.etsystudio.com/listing/120818154/butterfly-mounting-kit-for-beginners?ref=shop_home_active_4&ga_search_query=kit
I also have free online video tutorials: www.insectartonline.com

My butterflies come from farmed sources and are not taken from the wild. I cannot guarantee intact antennae on spread specimens, as they are just too fragile.

Thank You!

Additional policies

Wholesale & Consignment Policies:

If you are interested in carrying my pieces on consignment, please contact me privately. I do consign my pieces to a few local shops on a regular basis. I generally do not consign to out of state stores, as I have had bad experiences with this in the past.

Framed Art Displaying Information:

Although the materials I use are acid-free, the insects are not. Therefore, they may be subject to fading over time if not displayed properly. To display your insects properly, do not expose them to direct sunlight. Some insects, such as butterflies and moths, are more susceptible to fading, while other insects, such as beetles, don't fade hardly at all. Hallways, rooms with one or two small windows, and basements are all great places to display insects. However, they can be placed in almost any room in the house with a little common sense.

Jewelry pieces have been tested for durability, and each piece comes with care instructions. I expect them to last for many years with the proper care.

FAQs

The most frequently asked question I get is "do you catch the bugs yourself?". I do not usually catch them myself. The insects I use are not usually from the USA.

The second most frequently asked question I get is "are these bugs real? Do they really look like that in the wild?" The answer to that question is usually 'yes'. The vast majority of my insects have not been altered in any way; I choose to work with the most impressive kinds of insects in order to show you how beautiful insects can be. I do occasionally paint or otherwise decorate some of my insects in order to make an artistic statement. If this has been done, it should be obvious and I will make it clear in my item description.

Where do your bugs come from?
