Karen Kahle dye book in the Little Book Series, the Dusty Little Dye Book is all about dyeing light neutrals with only 3 dyes. The magic of the book is that it uses only three W. Cushing acid dye colors in varying amounts to get 12 subtly different colors in 26 tints for wool and other animal fibers. Great for yardage, roving, and yarn.
For a long while I struggled to create formulas for muted antique light values, always coming up with color that were too bright or glowing. Then I hit upon using 3 subtle dye colors, intermixing them to get a whole range of useful light colors that looked lovely dyed over light solid, textured, and patterned wool fabrics and yarns. These are the colors that I use all the time, and they are a part of every rug that I hook.
The Dusty Dye Book has 23 pages and is illustrated. You have directions for my dye method, a dye check list, and a description of each color with the dye formulas. In the center are full color pages that depict each dye formula color. I have also included a section on record keeping of formulas, and a list of suppliers.
To further your dye experience I have the Dusty Dye Book Swatch Set shown in the last photo, which is available in another listing in this etsy shop. I also recommend Grays Dye Spoons also available in the BOOKS AND TOOLS section of this shop.
