Item details

This is a Railroad spike knife made from... you guessed it...a railroad spike.
All of the items "From the Forge" are hand made by my husband, Jim.

These knives are made from railroad spikes collected locally where the track is being upgraded.

Taking an old and often rusty and discarded item and creating something new and shiny and sharp out of it is as satisfying as it is addictive.

Jim makes these knives by heating the railroad spike in his forge to red-hot. (There's a picture of his forge and anvil in use.) He then takes the square-shaft spikes and twists them with a Crescent wrench, forming the handle. Then he heats them again and again, and pounds them with a hammer until they're the right shape (and he is aerobically fit), then grinds and polishes them.

They weigh about 8 oz each, seven inches long with blades two to three inches.

Not just nice to look at either, this knife is forged with multiple uses in mind. Use it in the kitchen, take it camping, or use it as a hunting and skinning knife. It is a solid knife and very strong as the entire blade and handle are forged out of the one piece of metal.

All items are one-of-a-kind creations.

These knives are unique because everyone one of them has slight differences. No two are exactly alike, and that makes it special for both you, the buyer and Jim, the blacksmith.

Since it's a carbon steel, it will rust if not oiled properly.

I guarantee that I will get your purchase processed, packaged and shipped in a very timely manner. I carefully package your order and ship within 1-2 business days. However, I do not ship on weekends or holidays, so if you place your order on Friday it will not ship out until Monday.

During HOT weather times, soaps may become oily or greasy upon delivery. If that's the case just unpack them and let them sit at room temperature for a couple of hours, put in the refrigerator for a bit if necessary. This is due to the natural glycerin in the soap

Shipping times vary, but you can follow this general chart to estimate delivery time:

US East Coast: 1 to 2 days
US Midwest: 2 to 3 days
US West Coast: 3 to 4 days

These are estimates, if you have not received your package in a timely manner then please contact me and we can track it down.

I also offer bulk shipping:
1 - 4 items for $ 5.90 shipping
5 or more items for $ 12.50 shipping

At the moment I accept payments thru PayPal and direct check out with a credit card.

Please note that all shipping charges are estimated and from time to time there may be a need for additional shipping fees. Any shipping overcharges of $1 or more are refunded once your package has shipped.

Returns & exchanges

Due to the nature of bath and body products I am unable to accept exchanges or returns.
