“I love you with all the moods and tenses of the verb” gothic counted cross stitch sampler pattern.
In Bram Stoker’s “Dracula”, the newly married Mina Harker is writing to her best friend Lucy, whom she does not realize is lying near death, having been repeatedly fed upon by the evil Count. In summing up her letter, Mina says that her husband Jonathan asked Mina to send Lucy his “respectful duty”, but instead, “…as you love me, and he loves me, and I love you with all the moods and tenses of the verb, I send you simply his ‘love’ instead.”
This sampler is designed in a more classic way than some of my other pieces, with a simple heart pattern for the border, worked in garnet thread with black text, for a striking red, white, and black color combination. The finished sampler would be a perfect gift for anyone you love, be they a partner, parent, child, relative, or friend.
The stitched area of this piece is 159 x 119 stitches. The sample was worked on white 14 count Aida cloth and (stitched area) measures 11 ½ by 8 ½ inches. It took about 25 hours to stitch.
