I enjoy a good story and the story behind the name "Nivelles" is simple. Considered to be the Patron Saint of Cats and cat lovers is St. Gertrude who was born in Nivelles, Belgium in the year 621. When I discovered this little tidbit of history, the picture in the article showed Gertrude in a beautiful blue dress, very similar to the color of the shawllette I was working on at the time, hence the name!
This shawlette can be knit with either sport weight or DK weight yarn - I used Five Oaks Farm "Cayanne" sport weight - a blend of merino and alpaca, available at www.etsy.com/shops/fiveoaksfarm (none listed on her page at this time 12/4/2014). I've also knit a version in Blue Moon's Midweight Socks That Rock. You will need 3 skeins for the alpaca blend - 2 skeins in Socks That Rock.
You will need a 47", US #7 Circular needle - I recommend one with lace tips.
