Item details

As I was knitting this, the two colors blended together in such a way that it reminded me of the lichen that grows on trees in the forest. Looking the work up I discovered that "A lichen is a composite organism consisting of a fungus and a photosynthetic partner growing together in a symbiotic relationship. The photobiont is usually either a green alga or cyanobacterium." Scientific jargon aside, this pattern is also a composite of 2 different yarns that work together to create the design.

Use two similar colors in Noro Silk Garden like I did (#269 & #359), one skein of each, or choose 2 different colors that blend well. You will also need a 20" (or longer if lengthening), US #10 circular needle. Shown is a 24" size cowl - it can easily be made longer if desired.

"A very special thanks to Jackie Erickson-Schweitzer of HeartStrings FiberArts and her Honeycomb Shadow Lace Stole Pattern #H148 for the inspiration for this cowl and for the permission to use her stitch design to create this pattern. To see more of her beautiful designs, visit her website at"

Also available are patterns for "Lichen Hat" and "Lichen Mittensl" right here in my shop!
