Handmade Hand Beaded Pincushion from Vintage Embroidered Doily - The Flower Basket version two

At a size of 9" x 3" x 2" depth, this beautiful pincushion is aptly named "The Flower Basket". Let me call it "The Flower Basket version two", since there is another version with just a small difference.

This handmade pincushion is fashioned from a beautiful vintage embroidered doily. It is now a spectacular hand beaded pincushion. The embroidery was done on a wonderful vintage ivory linen, and the stitching was done by an expert. The design is a basket which was embroidered in shades of gold. I have added a row of yellow lined glass seed beads to the handle. The lower portion of the basket has been decorated with 21 golden brown rhinestones - each secured with a single small glass seed bead. It is my habit to double stitch all my beads. Add to that my habit of tying dozens of little "knotsies" on the back of my work, I have dubbed myself "the Knotsie Queen". The embroidered flowers are a combination of satin stitch and french knots. The centers have french knots and each has been accented with one or more glass seed beads in a color to compliment the original stitching. The flowers are: two blue ombre, four petal flowers - which have been outlined with glass seed beads in light to bright blue. There are three lavender ombre, four petal flowers outlined with glass seed beads in shades of lavender. There are three pink ombre, four petal flowers outlined with pink glass seed beads. The entire decorative portion has been beautifully outlined in green ombre floss. There are also 11 leaves, created with satin stitched embroidery. Each leaf has a large green glass bead at one end. This was done so that I would be able to tell the two pincushions apart. This technique would not work with human twins, but I assure you, the pincushions don't mind. This pincushion was stitched along three sides by hand and firmly stuffed with poly fiberfill. Who says a pincushion can't be beautiful as well as useful?

The wonderful small vintage doily this item was made from had two ends, the same design at both ends. I have made two pincushions, the only distinction is, this pincushion has beads on the leaves. This pincushion is shown in photograph three with a handmade decorative pin 2" long - made with a golden pearlized teardrop top above a purple matte finish glass flower bead, a small turquoise faceted crystal, a lavender matte finish glass flower bead, along with half of a green felted ball. This decorative pin will be included with the pincushion.

The Flower Basket version two has a single large glass bead on each leaf, for a total of 11 additional beads. You probably would not have noticed if I had not told you, right??
