Sometimes terracotta and sea pottery makes its way from land into the sea after storms, and sometimes it is tossed into the sea after a shipwreck...and if it came from a shipwreck, it is certain there will be gold coins and jewels scattered about. That's why pirates always search for piles of sea pottery. They know that buried treasure is nearby.
There's no way of knowing what these pieces used to be, from where they came, or how they got into the ocean. Were they part of the exterior of someone's home or were they once pots that were lost at sea, only to be found years later, tangled in seaweed and driftwood... How did they find their way to South Florida? Only the sea knows for sure... or the pirates.
There is more than 2 pounds in this collection. They range in a variety of sizes, shapes, colors, textures. Some pieces are small enough for sea inspired jewelry or used as part of a mosaic or other work of art. They can be used in an aquarium or terrarium, fantasy, fairy or secret garden. Write words of encouragement and give them to friends. Or simply, place them in a bowl on your desk or on shelf in home for an interesting rustic, beach décor theme.
All of the pieces have been smoothed by the surf and each one carries a unique pattern from being tossed around in the salty, sandy waters. There is evidence that one piece survived a fire as it is charred on both sides.
Sizes: The smallest piece is about dime size and the largest is approximately 3" x 1 1/2"
Note: Although I cleaned the pieces with soapy water, before placing these or any sea found objects into an aquarium or terrarium, check with a professional on how to make them safe for plants and aquatic life. The tiniest bit of salt will kill non-marine animals and plants.
Does not include starfish or sea grass.
