Item details

This is a quick project to knit, using size 15 US (10 mm) knitting needles and a fingering weight or sport weight yarn.

I wanted to have a loosely knit scarf/shawl to wrap around my neck and to be able to convert it easily to a shawl when I hit the air conditioning in a cold building, or a cool building in the winter too. When this project was finished and I took it for show-n-tell at my local knitting group, they wanted the pattern. These ladies were my testers and used every type of yarn, acrylic, cotton, rayon and wool. All of their projects look wonderful.

Two sizes are actually available and they depend on the bind off that you will pick to use when finished. Directions are given for the two bind off choices.
--The tighter bind, Pink shawl/scarf, off will give you a garment that will be approximately 64” x 14,” measured laying on a flat surface.
--The stretchy bind off(white/black shawl), described in pattern, will give you a shawl about 88’ x11,” measured laying on a flat surface. The stretchy bind off will give you a picot edge.

--For the Black/white sample shown, I used the Fiber Lady’s fingering weight bamboo yarn.
--For the pink sample shown, I used Handspun bamboo, spun at a sport weight to worsted weight measurement.
My testers used cotton, acrylic and wool fingering weight yarns. All look good. My testers for this project are a group of knitters at my local library.

--255 yards of fingering or sport weight yarn will work for this pattern.

--Gauge is very loose, I measured it laying on a flat surface. 10 sts = 4 inches.
