Handmade Pincushion - BEST Foot Forward, Soft Sculpture Foot with Brown Silk Sock - Aladdin Style Leather Shoe

Here you have a perfectly absurd little pincushion!!

When I saw these beautiful metallic and leather shoes, a fine example of the Aladdin style curled toe slippers from India - I immediately knew I had to have them. I also knew I would make them into pincushions. As I have been doing for some months, my latest line of pincushions are a series of little soft-sculpture feet, made specifically to fit into the shoe. I used to make soft sculpture dolls, and when I had these shoes in my hands, I immediately knew there would be a foot - or feet, actually - the mate to this slipper is already gone, it was gifted to a dear friend in Texas. If you are one to keep track of the absurd things I sell here, that makes a total of two Aladdin style leather shoe pincushions in Texas, as well as one in Australia. It is higly unlikely you will share a sewing class with the others - just in case you want to take it with you and show it off a bit! Imagine my surprise when I did not have to consult a pattern or a book to make the toes. It had been perhaps 10 years since I made one of these dolls. I can't remember my mothers maiden name, but I remember how to make toes. Unbelievable! And, as you might soon notice, I have been getting lots of practice, making several different foot pincushions in different types of shoes - for my shop. While I could have left the lil bare foot in the shoe, the Aladdin style slipper just begs for a silk "stocking" - made in a paisley print in rich colors of orange and muted bronze.

This is an actual shoe, made to support an actual human foot, albeit a very small and skinny foot. The shoe is made from leather. The surface has been embellished - first with a design in black (I believe it is a thin layer of leather?). Then it has been overstitched by machine with yards and yards of gold metallic thread. At the toe, a wonderful length of leather has been overstitched with gold metallic thread. Typical of the style, the toe curls up over the toe. The pincushion is 6.5" long by just under 2" wide, with a depth of 2". The slim soft sculpture foot, complete with five lil toes, is 5" by 1.5". This adorable foot is removable, because why would you purchase a foot and never look at it? The silk fabric is hand stitched in place, and while that is not how I put socks on my own feet, I had to get creative. The heel of the "sock" is gathered together, as shown in photograph #3, and the seam where the silk meets is carefully hand stitched on the bottom of the foot, shown in photograph #5.

My siblings are convinced I am insane, simply based on the knowledge that I collect pincushions! Of course, I am the only seamstress in the group. But anyway, I don't need to convince anyone I am crazy about sewing. But if you need just that special item to prove to all you are a seamstress who is crazy about sewing, I offer this silk paisley covered foot - stuffed into a tiny child size leather Aladdin style shoe - perhaps this perfectly absurd little pincushion should be yours!
